Job Description


Job Purpose:

  • Be a key member of the Underwriting Management Team, having accountability for the success of the Underwriting Operations team through meeting expected KPIs, SLAs, and seeking continuous operational improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and ensure operational excellence of the Syndicate.
  • Supervise the Underwriting Assistants of the Syndicate to deliver operational excellence.
  • Oversee the Pre-Bind Quality Assurance process.
  • Manage all Post Bind activities.
  • Coordinate activities with the Managing agent.
  • Capture, maintain, and process all risk and policy data (policy, endorsements, declarations) into the Underwriting system and spreadsheet(s) within the defined Service Level Agreements as per the SLA/KPI matrix.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for all processing and technical queries, ensuring timely communication and response.
  • Drive operational excellence across the business through business-wide initiatives and projects.
  • Lead the period close process, working closely with Underwriting, IT, Claims, and Finance teams to ensure all business is entered into the system, unmatched closings are addressed, etc., to close the month.
  • Coordinate and update all operational guidelines and manuals, liaising closely with all key stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight of business-wide policies and procedures.
  • Deliver support for credit control, delegated authority, underwriting administration, and reporting responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with key teams (Risk Management, Credit Control, Claims, Actuary, Portfolio Analyst, Compliance, Legal, and Finance) to continuously improve the team's service to meet defined Service Level Agreements.
  • Support business process transformation initiatives designed to build efficiency into end-to-end processes across the department and organization.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting, query resolution, and other tasks as required.
  • Complete ad-hoc operational matters for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge and understanding.
  • Proactively address and remedy errors.
  • Operate effectively in a matrix management environment, especially with UK-based counterparts and stakeholders.

Requirements:

Experience:

  • Experience in the London Market Environment, with Lloyds Box experience particularly relevant.
  • Management of International Facultative Risks on an end-to-end basis.
  • Demonstrated operational experience to deliver KPIs and SLAs.

Skills:

  • High standards of accuracy and data integrity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent skills in using MS Excel.
  • Professional writing and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of contractual language/slips.
  • Understanding of underwriting processes, controls, and systems.
  • Team and individual management skills.
  • Proficiency in system and IT operations.
  • Familiarity with Websure or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of London market systems (Xchanging / Lloyd’s).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook.
